A blog about model soldiers and toy soldiers having a deep bench of guest writers from the membership of the Ontario Model Soldier Society (OMSS) has tremendous potential to be a world-class blog.
The membership of the Ontario Model Soldier Society (OMSS) is approximately one hundred and fifty persons. Most of these individuals live in Ontario but a significant number of members live in Quebec and other Canadian provinces. Some OMSS members live in the United States as well as the United Kingdom. A few live in other countries as well.
At the monthly Toronto meetings of the OMSS there is typically a guest speaker on a topic involving military history. In this presentation David Dorward discusses Canada's involvement in the conflict in Afghanistan.
OMSS members are passionate about model soldiers and toy soldiers. Collectively, OMSS members have an incredible amount of knowledge about the hobby and related skills. One OMSS member, Scott Dummitt, owns and operates one of the few brick-and-mortar toy soldier stores remaining in Canada, Scott J. Dummitt Presents. Scott from the Ottawa chapter has a successful YouTube channel, Scott's Soldiers. Juan Lopez, of Juan's One-Sixth Exclusives, a member of the OMSS Ottawa chapter, makes museum-quality one-sixth figures. He has hand-made 73 different one-sixth figures, each representing a country that had a unique uniform during WWII.
Mark Silverthorn is the Editor of the Toy Soldier Collector Blog.
A significant number of OMSS members are excellent painters of model figures and have won numerous awards at various toy soldier shows. Some OMSS members including Scott Dummitt and Jim Qualtrough cast metal toy soldiers. Many OMSS members--too numerous to mention--are serious students of military history.
The Honourary President of OMSS is retired Canadian Brigadier General Darrell Dean, a lifelong toy soldier collector, and a resident of British Columbia. Stuart Hessney, Editor, Toy Soldier Collector & Historical Figures magazine, a New York state resident, has been a proud member of OMSS for many years. Robert Thompson of Ottawa has been the heart and soul of a thriving chapter of OMSS in Ottawa, Canada's national capital.
My goal is to launch a Blog on this website with approximately five to ten guest writers. Each of these guest writers will be asked to contribute a minimum of one blog post per month.
Any OMSS member who is interested in being a guest writer contributing blog posts on this blog should contact me at markasilverthorn@gmail.com.
Only time will tell how successful this Blog will be.
